Calycanthus floridus. This deliciously fragrant native plant is known by several common names: American Sweet Shrub, Sweet Betsy, Banana Shrub, Bubby Bush, Carolina Allspice, Strawberry Shrub, Pineapple Shrub, Spicebush, and perhaps others we're forgetting.

Native American deciduous shrub with very fragrant blooms in spring followed by very unusual-looking seedpods which hang heavily from the plant.

Mature size: 8 feet tall, but slow growing. Suckers arise from the roots to form a thicket.
